I just wanted to thank everyone who has been involved with Ten Tors this weekend. Speaking from a personal perspective, it's been mentally and emotionally exhausting, but it's also underlined yet again how miraculous both the event is and how courageous and awe-inspiring our 11 participants were. You will always be a team of 11, those bonds will never be broken. Although 5 of you walked off the Moor together, it was only thanks to the strength and support that the 11 of you have been providing to each other over these last 2 horrific months.
I also wanted to write to thank the support team. In particular, Miss Timms and Ali have worked stunningly hard, and been able to compose me at times which is no easy task. Mr Hanner has been solid as a rock as always, and Miss Venner has been continually supportive and helpful. Mr Nicholson has worked so so hard to make this weekend possible, and for that I give him my eternal thanks.
Seeing you walk over to us earlier reduced me to tears yet again. But unlike the many tears of sadness which I have shed recently, these were tears of sheer joy and pride. To have been able to spend so much time with such an inspirational group is an honour which I consider myself privileged to have had. You deserve all the praise that you will receive, for your effort is unrivalled.
But I feel I must also thank 2 more key groups of people. The first is the army. They have been so kind and supportive, especially in allowing 11 of you onto the Moor, but also in their handling of the support team in Okehampton Camp, providing us with information to allow us to keep you all informed. And finally, and crucially, I want to thank the parents and families of everyone involved. You have given me such support and strength, without which I would not have been able to keep going.
Rant over, guys, as you'll be glad to know. Thank you, and well done, you all deserve those hot baths tonight as much as any bath has ever been deserved.
Mr F
